Piece of Cake
As much as I love peppermint ice cream, it’s now halfway through January and time to move on. Today I bring you a fabulously local cake!
What is my history with Piece of Cake? Let me count the ways. I first became familiar with Taylor’s work through the wonder that is local facebook groups. It was an unintentional meme, it would happen over and over, someone would post a photo of a delectable square pizza heaped with toppings. Then the comments, oh the comments! “Where did you get that?” “Where is it located?” “When are they open?” Never mind how much info was in the original post, never mind links to the business, always the same comments! It didn’t take me long to try the Crust Plus pizza, sister business of Piece of Cake, and ogle the kronuts, cinnamon rolls, and cakes on display from the bakery side of things. I even took my students to buy cinnamon rolls one morning after we took a trip to the public library.
As to the Berry Cobbler cake so deliciously pictured? I’d long admired Taylor’s wedding cakes on her insta, but of course had no occasion to order one myself. Enter the 12 Days of Christmas giveaways where I won this magnificent 6-inch cake! I intended to take it to family dinner the next day but ended up snowed in, so I had some cake and my dog Laila was very offended that she was excluded from the party. Fun fact: I’ve said I’d consider this blog successful when I didn’t have to pay for the treats I write about, so thank you to Taylor for inadvertently giving me that gift when she drew me as the winner!!! PS the cake was AMAZING! Moist cake, rich vanilla buttercream frosting, and the blackberry texture just made it pop, and the graham cracker crust crumbles were a party for my mouth… I cannot recommend it enough. Check out Piece of Cake for all your special occasion needs… or for kronuts and cinnamon rolls!!! (I love the pizza, too!) Y’all know I stan a Raytown-local business and I couldn’t stan Crust Plus/Piece of Cake any harder.
Hope you enjoyed this jaunt into the world of sweets beyond ice cream. What’s your favorite sweet treat?
