Carry-out: Custard's Last Stand
So, here’s a specific genre I haven’t gotten much into yet: the custard stand. Punny name of this one aside, I feel like all these custard places are exactly the same… am I wrong??? I’m thinking Andy’s, I’m thinking Sheridan’s. Those are both regional (?) chains, while Custard’s Last Stand is much smaller. Is this a Missouri thing? Is it a midwest thing? Let me know…
The cute mural did not provide a citation, and I’m intrigued by the wording. It seems like Frozen Custard people are, like… super into the fact that what they serve is frozen custard and not ice cream… in my experience. Me, I’m willing to call it all ice cream, or under the ice cream umbrella, at least. Ha! Most of the ice cream I’ve made has technically been a custard (i.e., made from eggs). Something something air content, something something density, it’s all delicious!
Custard’s Last Stand is known for their promotions regarding the professional football team, and it’s been recommended to me before on those grounds! However, I had an appointment nearby and found myself there outside of football hours. I got a pumpkin cheesecake concrete and a cherry limeade. I’ll try to save my Sheridan’s cherry limeade stories until I go to Sheridan’s one of these days, but truly it was a very similar experience!
Gimme dat cheesecake chunk… while eating in the car (thanks, pandemic). Ha! Are you team frozen custard or team ice cream?
