Savor some sweetness with me, won’t you?

Ok. Let me tell you about my froyo journey. Remember like circa 2011 when the self-serve froyo places were EVERYWHERE, in various shades of pastels and cutesy names? I was as hyped for the concept as anyone back then! But it was never my first choice. And now I can’t think of frozen yogurt without thinking about its role in The Good Place. However one strong perk of froyo is that it’s an option for people with egg allergies! Ice cream may or may not contain eggs but froyo never does. Anyhow, I’ve noticed some of the cutesier places have petered off over the years but one thing that’s stayed consistent is Yogurtini Plaza. Now I don’t know the ins and outs of franchising and how chains work but Yogurtini Plaza is a Black-owned business… and while I didn’t make it to that location, the same person owns the Shoal Creek location.

My parents had an expiring coupon, is what brought us to Yogurtini. The self-serve experience is modified for the pandemic by the toppings being in individual cups instead of everyone touching the same spoons, and honestly, I’m here for it. It was kind of funny seeing people’s different froyo strategies - mine is “dump in random flavors that sound good and drown it in toppings,” while you can see my father went all out with a divider (who knew!!!!) and beautifully served yogurt.

It was fun, it was good! But my bottom line on froyo remains that line from The Good Place, but it’s a spoiler and I’m trying to convince my mom to watch the show, so I’ll keep it to myself. I’m glad Yogurtini is out there as an option… I just might be more inclined to choose ice cream-ice cream, personally. :)
