Savor some sweetness with me, won’t you?

Cookie Class

Happy un-hiatus, sweeties! It’s been a tough year (probably for everyone) but I’m looking forward to dipping my toes back into your favorite ice cream blog. With, of course, a post that’s not about ice cream.

You know we love local businesses here at Sweet Tooth Tracy, and my current obsession is Shop Local KC. This gorgeous shop curates goods from local makers and artists, sells fresh flowers, and hosts classes and community events in their studio space. I signed up for a cookie decorating class on my birthday - and what’s more, it turned out that Rachel of Dandelion Bakeshop, who was an awesome teacher, is a friend of a friend!!

I’ve always been intimidated by the concept of royal icing - bloggers make it look so perfect, and the idea of letting things dry between every layer? Oof!

Rachel’s class was so accessible and fun - and my cookies turned out pretty good, if you ask me! I think I will continue to practice with this art form. I think it speaks to me more than watercolor painting did, oops (I recently took a class in that art form, too). Both practices require me to work on that life skill of PATIENCE… so they’d probably both be very good for me!!

Thank you to Rachel at Dandelion Bakeshop, and thank you to Katie + Shop Local KC for hosting… and for the free birthday bouquet! Sign up for texts from Shop Local KC to get yours, too! Have you ever tried royal icing? Got any strategies to share?
