Yum!

Savor some sweetness with me, won’t you?

Ice Cream Bae

Ice Cream Bae

I’ve always liked ice cream. (Who hasn’t?) But this summer I certainly created some habits regarding getting ice cream on the reg. With that in mind, one recent weekend, my grandfather was in the hospital and I was spending all my free time there, and this hospital just HAPPENED to be near, like, ALL of the ice cream, and I hadn’t gotten ice cream in SO LONG (insert crying-face emojis) (like 8 days y’all!!!), and I was browsing instagram and mentioned out loud that Ice Cream Bae was having a special on shakes…

A few minutes later, my mom announces, “ok, let’s go get ice cream.”

We walked down the hill to the Plaza and headed straight for the Made in KC Marketplace. This shop opened last year and is home to a variety of local vendors. Plants? Check. Enamel pins? Check. Clever t-shirts? Of course. And honey and liquor and pickles and candles and earrings and socks and you name it, it’s there and it’s local! (Including Christopher Elbow chocolates, the brand behind Fairway Creamery.) I buy gifts there all the time. Here’s a brief look around…my personal fave is the new nook for Messner Bee Farm! The business is in my part of town and I’m glad it’s getting more exposure at the Plaza.

Whenever I stop by Made in KC, I have to swing by Ice Cream Bae. Its shtick? Blending cereal or your add-on of choice into their colorful ice cream, and serving it to you with tip-top presentation. It was created for the ‘gram and I am HERE FOR IT. They’ve even dropped their prices slightly since opening, which I appreciate… a $10 instagrammable ice cream cone is a BIT extreme in the midwest, even for your favorite ice cream blogger.

The special that day was milkshakes, and since we’d be hiking the hill to the hospital, the easily-transported cups seemed more reasonable than gaudy cones. Together our party ended up with a plain chocolate shake, a chocolate shake with snickers bars (def clogged up the machine from the sticky candy), an ube shake with kit kats, and my ube shake with fruity pebbles. Ube is a Filipino flavor, sweet purple yam. Give it a try next time you have the chance!

Milkshakes in hand, we trekked back to Grandpa. With permission from the nurse (“he’s 91, let him do what he wants!”) Grandpa tried all 4 milkshakes and drank most of the chocolate snickers one, which was encouraging! Ice Cream Bae gets a thumbs up from the whole fam, and golly, I appreciate their proximity to the hospital!! You ever make a wacky food run for a friend or family member in need?
