Yum!

Savor some sweetness with me, won’t you?

Fairway Creamery

Fairway Creamery

One of my favorite* new ice cream places around here is Fairway Creamery. Located just far enough away from me to restrict visits to special occasions, the creamery is under the Christopher Elbow umbrella and, by golly, what they do well in fancy chocolate, they do just as well in fancy ice cream. (And have done well for years, to be fair, but I haven’t gone to Glace since the friend who introduced me to it moved to California…remind me to go back to Glace!)

*When it comes to ice cream, I may not have a very good grasp of the meaning of the word “favorite.” I love it all!

Located in a former gas station tucked away in a neighborhood, the aesthetics of this place are solid. Big windows, cute design, lots of patio space…hoo boy, the designer dogs I spotted on that patio! Fairway Creamery is half coffee and donuts, half ice cream, and I must admit that I have only sampled the latter thus far. I love a donut but how can I resist ice cream?? One of these days I will try the “Fairway to Heaven” sundae, which features an old fashioned donut.

Now, if there’s one thing I can’t stand in ice cream, it is BORING flavors. I very rarely get ice cream that doesn’t have “chunks” in it. (What? I never claimed to have a foodie’s vocabulary. Ha!) Cookies n cream, gimme. Something I can bite down on, perfect, even better if it’s crunchy. Chocolate and vanilla have their place but not if I can taste something gaudy and colorful instead. Here is where Fairway Creamery blew me away. I felt drawn to try Dark Chocolate, since that is what the brand is known for, after all. It was great. And on a YOLO lark, I got a scoop of Golden Chai. No idea what was in it or what made it bright yellow but, hot dog, it was a party for my mouth! The most interesting flavor I’ve had in a while.

Besides creatively crafted hand-made flavors in the case, the creamery always has a couple soft serve options and offers a variety of flavors of dipped cones. On my most recent visit they had vanilla and pineapple soft serve… vegan pineapple soft serve… oh, Springfield friends, I was so tempted to taste it in honor of my beloved Pineapple Whip! Another time. I tried cereal milk soft serve on a previous visit, with a cherry dip.

Do you have ANY idea how difficult it is for me to choose between a waffle cone, a donut sundae, and a dipped cone? Which one would you pick?

Get thee to Fairway Creamery. Or, you know, hire their food truck and invite me to the party!
