Salt and Straw... finally!

Let me tell you my history with PNW darling Salt and Straw. 1. When I visited friends in Portland in 2019 (?), I got ice cream from their cutesy soft serve bar at a mall (not a traditional location). 2. During lockdown I got their cookbook and found it very pretentious. 3. Ok that’s about it.

Anyhow, as my evening with friends wound down in Japantown and we tried to brainstorm our next steps, it came up that Salt and Straw was around the corner (which, being SF, means up a bunch of hills. ha!). Anyhow, for you, dear reader, even if this was back in February, I decided I had room for another cone! I went with one scoop of Arbequina Olive Oil, a recipe that stood out in the cookbook as being one of their signatures.

It was good! But it was also one of those things where I’m not sure my palate is quite advanced enough to fully appreciate it, y’know? My poor taste buds, I’ve woefully trained them to like GOOD ice cream, but I still prefer the flavors of the people. ha!
