Sparky's
All right, I finally went on the pilgrimage of a true Betty Rae’s stan, to Sparky’s in Columbia, where the couple behind my local fave honed their knack for ice cream. The Betty Rae’s website describes Sparky’s as “a one-in-a-million parlor renowned for its collection of weird paintings and yarn animals as well as for its wonderful flavors.”
Love it. Love the flavors, love the weirdness of the art, love the statue and neon sign featuring Sparky the bulldog, love the ways it’s similar to and different from Betty Rae’s. I enjoyed the college town tidbits of clear allergy information, whiteboards galore, and strong encouragement toward recycling!
The eclectic art was the icing on the cake! I’d be interested to know more about how they curate their collection but I couldn’t find much of a web presence for the business. If you know the sitch on Sparky’s, let me know!
Oh yeah - I got Blueberry and Mixed Candy Bag (with bigass chunks of all sorts of candy bars), they were delish! I was missin’ Betty Rae’s fresh-made waffle cones, though!
