The Twist - Navarre, FL

Oh boy, this is a good one, and I get to dust off that rarely-used “travel” tag! Earlier this summer my mom and I spent a few days at the beach. Thumbs up, highly recommend, it was very nice to be at the beach instead of teaching summer school. Ha! Of course we found ice cream while we were there, and that brings us to The Twist Custom Ice Cream in Navarre, Florida.

The ambiance was impeccable, both of the charming old-fashioned ice cream stand, and also of the storm clouds rolling in! As for the ice cream -

Dang, that looks good. But, uh, leave it to me to make a huge mess. I tried SUPERMAN ice cream! I don’t remember who but some lovely friend on instagram was very nostalgic for this flavor - I found it in Florida! Anyhow you can see that the primary colors of Superman combined with the chocolate-based scoop into a lovely color dripping down my hands. Ha!

I loved The Twist for the same reasons I loved Navarre Beach - cute, local, not too touristy. I highly recommend it if you’re in the neighborhood, but shhh! Navarre’s (former?) motto is “Florida’s best kept secret,” so don’t spill the beans! Unless they’re cacao or vanilla beans spilling into chocolate…? Eh, a swing and a miss, but I’ll work on my pun game for next time!
