Clinton's Soda Fountain
Clinton’s Soda Fountain on the Independence square has been on my to-try list for quite a while, and I finally made it in. Clinton’s is known for its historical charm as well as its delicious shakes and sundaes. While it opened in 1988, it is widely referred to as the site of Harry Truman’s first job. For those of you wondering about the math, the website shares that Truman worked at a similar historic soda fountain in downtown Independence that no longer exists.
Clinton’s sells ice cream, sundaes, and shakes; grilled cheese sandwiches and soups; retro candies and toys; as well as Polly’s Pop. With the factory located just down the street, this was the most variety of Polly’s Pop I’ve ever seen in one place, and you know I had to try the Glazed Donut flavor! (Verdict: tasted like cream soda. It was fine.)
My friends and I split a Giant Sundae version of the Nutty Turtle: butter pecan ice cream layered with fudge and warm caramel. And three cherries on top, for the three of us! It was a delicious treat, and truly giant. After a grilled cheese and tomato soup, I was glad I wasn’t trying to tackle this thing by myself!
Super cute vibes! And pro tip for next time, the waflle cones are freshly made behind the counter… you know that’s my jam! Would you try Glazed Donut soda?
